Atonement, a film adaptation of the brilliant novel by Ian McEwan, is a romantic drama set in the years preceding and during World War II. The lives of Cecilia Tallis and her lover, Robbie Turner, are irrevocably altered by the simple words of her younger sister, Briony Tallis. Unbelievably, Requiem for A Dream exceeded even these lofty expectations and left me emotionally gripped upon its conclusion.

Transformers! Ah, the nostalgic robot fantasy of our childhood where vehicles morph into fighting robots. The endless battles between the Autobots and the Decepticons. The classic duels between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Now, the series is revived as a movie under the director-ship of Michael Bay.

The Fountain is an epic cinematic experience, a masterpiece that spans across a thousand years, incorporates 3 separate but associated narratives, and forces us to ponder upon the issues of love, hope, despair, spirituality and mortality. It would be wrong to classify it simply as a love story, for it delves much deeper than that. It is an intelligent, deep, hard film. It is an arthouse piece, one that compels us to think, to question, to discuss, and therein lies its beauty.
