What ecstasy! What joy! What sorrow! What sadness! Surely, in terms of its sheer, unadulterated intensity and excitement, the heights and depths of emotions fans experience, football is unrivaled.

Football is unpredictable, and therein lies its beauty and thrill. The improbable triumph of the underdog never ceases to fascinate. How many of us have become footie fans overnight after witnessing a fairy-tale run, a glorious triumph, a victory for the underdog against seeming insurmountable odds? Too many to count, probably.

Marie Antoinette (click to enlarge)Sofia Coppola’s retelling of the story of the ill-fated Marie Antoinette did not leave a lasting impression. A lack of gravity was compounded by the addition of contemporary culture which did the film no favours.
