Movie Review - Requiem For A Dream

Requiem For A Dream (click to enlarge)I have been yearning to catch Requiem For A Dream ever since I saw director Darren Aronofsky’s other cinematic masterpiece, The Fountain (read my review of that epic here). I was hugely impressed with The Fountain and sought to watch Aronofsky’s previous films, expecting them to be of a similarly high standard. Unbelievably, Requiem for A Dream exceeded even these lofty expectations and left me emotionally gripped upon its conclusion.

Movie Review - The Fountain

The Fountain (click to enlarge)The Fountain is an epic cinematic experience, a masterpiece that spans across a thousand years, incorporates 3 separate but associated narratives, and forces us to ponder upon the issues of love, hope, despair, spirituality and mortality. It would be wrong to classify it simply as a love story, for it delves much deeper than that. It is an intelligent, deep, hard film. It is an arthouse piece, one that compels us to think, to question, to discuss, and therein lies its beauty.
